Videos
I don't have much experience of shooting or editing video, but my camera records good quality pictures. So I'm going to do a bit more in future - and hope I shall get better! I often see things that would make good video, so I shall post clips and short films from time to time. It's a nice way of enabling people who can't get out and about as much as I do to see sights they wouldn't otherwise see, so please feel free to share the link to this page. Thanks!
Toads in spring (making more toads!)
I've visited a local pond regularly in spring trying to see this - but never before got the timing right. This year I did, and it's an extraordinary spectacle. I hope you enjoy this short (three and a half minute) video - despite its technical shortcomings!
Dipper chicks, newly fledged
I watched a dipper's nest at Gibson's Cave, at the North Pennines AONB Bowlees Visitor Centre as often as I could get there over three weeks - and was lucky enough to be there when the chicks fledged. I was there when two of the three chicks left the nest, and took some video footage over the subsequent couple of days. And I was relieved and delighted on my last visit to see all three chicks (but didn't catch them on video).
(The sound on this is truly awful, because of the loud 'white noise' of the waterfall, which appears to have reacted with the software; I'd recommend watching without sound!)

A snipe calling (and preening, briefly)
Black grouse lekking
This is a five-minute version of the 15-minute video of balck grouse lekking, made from clips I've filmed over several years visiting one of the largest leks in England. The full 15-minute version is on the 'Black Grouse' page of the website - click here.
