low force
A couple of miles downstream from High Force is Low Force, a beautiful cascade of falls much beloved of white water kayakers - and, in September 2014, a Bollywood film crew! (The rather exotic-looking blue water in the picture above is caused by reflection from the sky.) The walk between the two, alongside the river on the Pennine Way, is deservedly popular; it is one of the few walks in the area where you are fairly certain to meet other walkers on any day. The Bowlees car park and Visitor Centre (check the website for information) are conveniently close by. Catering at the visitor centre is by The Ford Kitchen, and Low Force can also be easily reached on foot from Holwick, on the west side of the river (where refreshment is available at the Strathmore Arms).
After heavy rain, when the river is in spate, Low Force can be almost as spectacular as High Force. When the river is low, it is gently beautiful.
