Flowers, plants and fungi
Upper Teesdale and Moor House NNR (National Nature Reserve) was established by Plantlife as one of 150 UK Important Plant Areas (IPAs) in 2007: 'The area was designated principally for its range of internationally important habitats - lower lying hay meadows, rough grazing and juniper woods, as well as limestone grassland, blanket bogs and the summit heaths of the high fells. Nowhere else in Britain is there such a diversity of rare habitats in one location.' The Spring Gentian (above) is found nowhere else in England, but can be found in a number of sites high up the Dale.
