Flora & Fauna
Teesdale is justly renowned for its wildlife. It is an important stronghold for a number of endangered species, such as the water vole and black grouse, and amongst its many rare plants is one species - the spring gentian - not found anywhere else in England. It is also famous for its traditional species-rich hay meadows, and livestock - especially sheep - are a major feature of the landscape, and play an essential part in its management. There are separate pages for flowers, plants and fungi and for animals and birds.
